1. Introduction

NSS The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship youth development programme of the Government of India, implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It aims to develop students’ personality through community service, social responsibility, and experiential learning, guided by the motto “Not Me, But You.”
The NSS Unit of Government Degree College Dharampur (Solan) has been actively engaged in academic, social, environmental, and community-oriented activities, fostering the spirit of volunteerism and nation-building among students.

2. Vision and Mission of NSS Unit

Vision :
To nurture socially responsible, compassionate, and empowered youth who actively contribute to community development and national progress.

Mission :

  • To inculcate civic consciousness and democratic values among students.
  • To encourage students’ participation in community service and social outreach programmes.
  • To develop leadership qualities, teamwork, and life skills through experiential learning.
  • To promote environmental sustainability, health awareness, and social harmony.

3. Objectives

The NSS Unit of GDC Dharampur strives to:

  • Promote student engagement in social and community development.
  • Sensitize students towards rural development, cleanliness, health, literacy, and environmental protection.
  • Develop personality traits such as discipline, leadership, cooperation, and empathy.
  • Encourage students to act as agents of social change and national integration.

4. Major NSS Activities

The NSS Unit of GDC Dharampur organizes a wide range of activities throughout the academic year, including:

a) Community Development and Outreach

  • Cleanliness drives under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
  • Awareness campaigns on health, hygiene, substance abuse, and gender equality.
  • Blood donation camps and health check-up camps.
  • Literacy and digital literacy awareness programmes.

b) Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives

  • Plantation drives and campus greening programmes.
  • Preparation of plant nurseries and eco-friendly activities.
  • Solid waste management and plastic-free campus initiatives.
  • Awareness on climate change and sustainable development.

c) National and Social Awareness Programmes

5. Integration of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Portal Initiative

About MY Bharat Portal

NSSMera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) is a national digital platform launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to empower youth and connect them with volunteering, learning, leadership, and nation-building opportunities. It is a technology-driven ecosystem that provides experiential learning, mentorship, and skill development opportunities to young citizens aged 15–29 years. The platform allows students and institutions to register, participate in national programmes, build digital profiles, and earn recognition for volunteering activities. (https://mybharat.gov.in/)

Role of NSS Unit GDC Dharampur in MY Bharat Initiative

The NSS Unit of GDC Dharampur actively promotes and facilitates:

  • Registration of students and volunteers on the MY Bharat Portal.
